Use a block quote to highlight a direct quotation with attribution.

Criteria

  • Can be used to highlight a quotation from a person or from a reliable source of information. For example, a quotation from the mayor, Municipal Code excerpts or Statistics Canada data.

  • Must not include hyperlinks, bold, bullets, italics or headings.

  • Must not be used as a section heading.

  • Must not duplicate information found elsewhere on the page.

  • The attribution must appear below the quotation, begin with a dash and use small font. See example above.
