About The HSI Project

The Human Services Integration Project is a multi-year and multi-phased initiative focused on integrating and improving access channels to online, over-the-phone and in-person services for essential income support programs. 

What Does That Actually Mean?

• Human Services Integration (HSI) is a multi-divisional partnership between Shelter, Support & Housing Administration (SSHA), Toronto Children's Services (TCS), Toronto Employment & Social Services (TESS), and Parks, Forestry & Recreation (PFR). 

• The project is mandated to integrate specific access and intake elements of three key income support programs – Ontario Works, Child Care Fee Subsidy and Rent Geared to Income housing subsidy

• HSI is service user and staff focused, meaning we’re using service design principles to create a better system for residents and employees that focuses on how services are experienced

• The project has a large reach. Almost 18% of Torontonians are either waiting for a service (e.g. on the social housing wait list to receive a rent geared to income housing subsidy or waiting for a child care fee subsidy), or are in receipt of a service (eg. receiving an Ontario Works and related benefit

• The project is multi-year, and multi-phased and is focused on integrating channels of access – online, on-the-phone and in-person
