*NEW* 2023 ArcGIS Client Upgrade Plan

To keep up with the emerging GIS industry trends and remain in state of good repair, it is imperative that the Enterprise Geospatial Environment (EGE) is assessed and upgraded based on customer needs and technology advancements at a more frequent schedule.

The purpose of the ArcGIS client upgrade plan is to provide as much advance notice as possible regarding the environment and technology changes, and to help clients understand the required actions and implications of these changes.

  1. GCCVIEW
    Much of the work being done will not be initially visible to desktop GIS users. When configuration changes are required, we will provide communication on how to go about making those changes. The viewing environment will be upgraded to Esri Geodatabase 10.8.1 in Q2-Q3, 2023.

  2. Changes to GPA2
    Esri has announced the deprecation of user schema geodatabases in Oracle*. ArcGIS 10.6.1 and ArcGIS Pro 2.1 are the last releases to support their creation. We are actively working on plans to move GPAG2 to a new Esri geodatabase model. No additional action is required for existing GPAG2 users at this point. Please contact gcc@toronto.ca if you have any questions.

1 ArcMap & ArcCatalog require a 32-bit Oracle Client. ArcGIS Pro requires a 64-bit Oracle client. 
2 Upgrading to a newer version of ArcGIS Pro is not supported by Esri while we are using Oracle 18c databases.

Required Actions for GCCView users

Upgrade license manager – Deadline: Dec 31st, 2023

If you are using the GCC license manager gccmslm.corp.toronto.ca, please skip this step.

If you are not using the GCC license manager, contact the administrator of your division's license manager to upgrade it to version v2021.1 or later.

Upgrade ArcGIS Software – Deadline: Dec 31st, 2023

If you are still on ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 or lower, submit a request to TSD Service Desk to upgrade to ArcGIS 10.8.2 and/or ArcGIS Pro 2.9.x. ArcGIS 10.6.1 MUST be upgraded before December 31st, 2023. After this date, ArcGIS 10.6.1 will not be supported.
